ASHBURNHAM, MA, December 15, 2016 –Ashburnham is pleased to announce the appointment of Fire Chief John E. Parow as the Town’s Interim Fire Chief. Parow will take over on Monday, December 19th from Fire Chief Paul Rekos, who has served as Ashburnham’s Fire Chief for the past two years.
Chief Parow served 16 years as Chelmsford’s fire chief, served eight months as interim chief in Ipswich, and most recently served 14 months as interim chief in Haverhill.
Parow received his master’s degree from the State University of New York and a bachelor’s in Fire Engineering and Safety Technology from the University of Cincinnati. He has various certifications, including his EMT license, and his numerous writings have been published in professional fire publications. Parow is a nationally recognized expert in his field of fire science. Parow is a past president and chairman of the board of directors of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Parow is also an adjunct professor at Anna Maria College in the Fire Science and Management Program.
As Interim Fire Chief, Parow will provide the Town with an outside, independent assessment of the department, work on a departmental strategic plan, and help the Town choose the best possible new chief to take the Town and fire department forward.
Town Administrator Heather Budrewicz will appoint a search committee and advertise for a permanent Fire Chief around the first of the New Year, with an anticipated start date for a new hire around July 1, 2017.
