“Welcome to Fiscal Year 2016”
We are now entering into FY16 and by most accounts FY15 was a very good year. All accounts/Departments spent within their budgets and only “Snow & Ice and the Briggs School project” needed monies transferred to cover a deficit. Looking ahead we are now gearing up to continue our paving program with Russell Hill Road scheduled to begin shortly. The Board of Selectmen has also appointed a “Downtown Reuse Committee” to look at ways to bring business and supported tax revenue to Ashburnham. I will also be asking for volunteers to form a “DPW Building Committee”. We have the land and much work has been completed through prior committees, but we need to relocate and build a new DPW facility to free up a valuable land asset. If you are interested in volunteering for the committee please notify my office.
Capital Planning has been one of our accomplishments in the last few years and in FY16 due to the great work of Fire Chief Paul Rekos and his staff, we are hearing word that we are to be the recipient of a Firefighter Assistance Grant to purchase a new fire truck that will allow us to retire Engine 3 and the Tanker.
Through a Grant with the MA Dept of Transportation there is planned to be a newly designed 4-way stop at the intersection of Corey Hill and Williams Roads. To qualify, the intersection was designated one of the most dangerous intersections, by capita, in Massachusetts. Designs are still being worked on and there will be an informational hearing, but all work must be completed by the end of FY16.
Thank you for all your support and with your help we can make FY16 an exciting year.
